It’s time to present to you our artist for our second exhibition at our pop-up in Ghent. Let’s get to know Laurent Dierckx and his colourful paintings and drawings.
Step into Laurent Dierckx’s studio, and you’ll find yourself immersed in a vibrant and enchanting world. Splatters of paint adorn the concrete floors and walls, while tropical plants, bring life to every corner of the room. The melodies of a warm jazz saxophone waft through the air, mingling with the cheerful chirping of birds housed within a 19th Century French aviary.
Unfinished artworks, strategically placed against the walls, seem to merge seamlessly with the studio’s atmosphere, offering a glimpse into the artist’s creative process.
Welcome to Laurent’s interpretation of a colorful vegetal world, a personal mythology that evokes tranquility and invites exploration.
For Laurent Dierckx, the journey of creation begins with an empty canvas, a blank slate waiting to be transformed. With a base coat and a delicate interplay of shapes and lines, he begins to give form to his vision. Blank spaces carefully interspersed within the composition invite the viewer’s imagination to complete the narrative, fostering a sense of engagement.
As the artist navigates the process, he encounters emotional changes and moments of discontent. It is at this crossroad where he faces a pivotal decision: start afresh or overturn and reshape what already exists.
The wind of change sweeps through the studio, guiding his hand with rhythmic repetition and guiding his intuition. Each stroke builds upon the previous, creating layers of experience and meaning that resonate with the viewer.
Color is a defining element in Laurent Dierckx’s works. Popping colors, like a splash of pink, blue, or green, infuse his canvases with life and vitality.
They evoke a sense of harmony within chaos, a delicate balance of contrasting hues that speak to the complexity of the human experience.
These vibrant pigments are carefully applied, forming textures that not only engage the viewer’s senses but also add depth and dimension to the narrative unfolding before them.
Drawing inspiration from the vegetal world, he explores its diverse forms, colors, and textures. Through his artwork, he weaves a narrative that bridges the gap between the figurative and the contemporary, infusing each piece with a unique language and unexpected surprises.
His paintings offer a glimpse into a world where order emerges from chaos, and where the act of creation becomes a refreshing and transformative experience.
Laurent Dierckx’s studio is a sanctuary where artistry and nature harmoniously converge. Through his paintings, he invites us to immerse ourselves in a colorful vegetal world, where personal mythologies take shape.
With each brushstroke, he unveils a universe that brims with emotions, textures, and surprising discoveries. Laurent’s works transcend boundaries, creating a vibrant dialogue between the artist, his audience, and the natural world.
In this refreshing exploration, we are reminded of the power of art to transcend reality and transport us to a realm where beauty and imagination intertwine.
Laurent Dierckx’s journey as an artist began with his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels in 2000, followed by further training at the Academy of Watermael-Boitsfort in 2002. His exploration of different artistic mediums led him to enroll in a Printmaking program at La Cambre, as well as at the Academy of Uccle and Libramont.
