As the year 2022 has come to an end, it’s time to reflect on all that Galerie Jos Depypere accomplished in 2022. It was a memorable and significant year for our gallery, with solo exhibitions and group shows featuring works from a variety of artists. We were delighted to have welcomed hundreds of visitors and hope that each of you found something inspiring, thought-provoking, or simply beautiful during your visit.
One of our first major events took place in March in Lille, France. We were thrilled to participate in the 2022 Lille Art Up Art Fair, after a 3-year absence from the event. The theme of the fair was “Transparency and Light,” thereby Giampaolo Amoruso’s glass art works would fit perfectly within this theme. Alongside the solo show, there was also a display featuring works by Bernard Pras, Christian Silvain, Laurent Dierckx, and José Vermeersch.
Following a successful edition in Knokke during the summer of 2020, Galerie Jos Depypere decided to open another pop-up! This time around we would spent the summer months at Ostend! Ostend is progressively emerging as the cultural place to be of Belgium’s coast. With a vibrant art scene and more than 50 galleries, the coastal city appears to be the perfect place to open new pop-up gallery. Thanks to Bart Ramakers and Galerie Papillon, we found an ideal location on the corner of the Marie-José Plein (former Galerie Papillon) where the pop-up opened its doors on July 1, 2022. An artwork by Kamagurka and Herr Seele was created for the event. The painting represents two Ostend personalities: Cowboy Henk and singer Arno. The work named “Cowboy Oh La La” fits in a series of works honouring the city of Ostend.
Shortly after, we would be getting ready to host our most successful event of the year. After preparing for more than two years, we would finally curate an exhibition around “100 years of José Vermeersch”. The first sculpture exhibition of the ancestor of the Vermeersch family took place in Galerie Depypere in 1969. Years later, we wanted to honour his work with this retrospective exhibition. The unique exhibition showed unrevealed sculptures and paintings accompanied by family photos and memories with the Depypere family. Furthermore, the vzw Atelier Vermeersch, together with the children and grandchildren Vermeersch, organized an exhibition that took place at 3 unique locations; the main exhibition, with work from private collections, at Atelier-Vermeersch in Lendelede; a photo exhibition about the life of José Vermeersch in the Castle of Rumbeke (Roeselare) and an exhibition with paintings from the period 1968-1969 in the Patria in Kortrijk.
After experiencing great success in the preceding month, we went on to curate our winter exhibition. This event is a longstanding tradition for our artists, who spend several months preparing for this event. December is a particularly fitting time for this exhibition, as it allows for the opportunity to offer art as a gift for the holiday season.
Whether it’s a painting, sculpture, or photograph, a piece of art has the ability to bring joy and beauty to someone’s life. We understand that art can be a thoughtful and meaningful gift, but it can also be expensive. That’s why we offer a selection of affordable art gifts for our clients. By providing a range of price points, we hope to make it possible for more people to enjoy the experience of giving and receiving art as a present. Our goal is to make it easy for our clients to find the perfect gift that fits their budget, while still offering high-quality and beautifully crafted works of art.
Looking back on the past year, we are proud of the programming we created. We are excited about what the future holds and look forward to continuing to bring new and engaging programming to our community in the coming year. We hope that you will join us for these upcoming exhibitions and events, and that they will inspire and enrich your life in meaningful ways.
