Landuyt Octave

Octave Landuyt is a Flemish painter, sculptor, jewellery designer, graphic artist, industrial designer and designer (1922). Initially Octave Landuyt looks for inspiration within dreams and delusions. His subjects often refer to death, threat and decay. His early work is closely related to the magical-realistic and surrealist movements that are strongly present nationally and internationally.

Later he produces abstract work (enlargements) with a preference for the tragic. In the early 1960s he returned to figuration and painted a number of monumental faces and animals with a beautiful material and skin. This is the most important fragment of his oeuvre. The issues of life and death are central.

Admirers of Landuyt’s art rank him among the Renaissance artists or call him a rebirth of the Flemish Primitives.
