100 Years of José Vermeersch

Artist José Vermeersch would have turned 100 this year. The first sculpture exhibition of the ancestor of the Vermeersch family took place in Galerie Depypere in 1969. Years later, we want to honour his work with this retrospective exhibition. 

José Vermeersch is one of the most important contemporary visual artists in Belgium. His work has been exhibited from Venice to San Francisco and even in Mexico. 

To date, distinctive attention has been paid to his work by museums within Belgium and abroad as well as by private collectors all over the world. 

In the spring time of 2022 a seated man with a dog was included in the exhibition “Les Flammes: L’Age de la céramique” at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris.

From October 8 to November 6, 2022, Galerie Jos Depypere is organizing a unique retrospective of exhibition José Vermeersch’s work and relationship with the Depypere family. Come and discover never exhibited sculptures and paintings accompanied by family photos and memories.

Furthermore, the vzw Atelier Vermeersch, together with the children and grandchildren Vermeersch, is organizing an exhibition that will take place at 3 unique locations.

The main exhibition, with work from private collections, will take place in the Atelier-Vermeersch in Lendelede. In addition, there is a photo exhibition about the life of José Vermeersch in the Castle of Rumbeke (Roeselare) and an exhibition with paintings from the period 1968-1969 in the Patria in Kortrijk.

Mu.Zee (Oostende) is bringing out its collection of sculptures to honor the artist.

The sales exhibition will take place from Saturday 8 October to Sunday 6 November 2022 in Galerie Jos Depypere, Kuurne.

The gallery can be visited from Thursday to Sunday from 2 pm to 6.30 pm.

Entrance is free.

The vernissage will take place on Friday 7 October from 6 pm to 11 pm.
